Blackthorn Communications has a knack for spotting trends, and the revival of interest in the work of 1930s weird fiction author HP Lovecraft is something we saw coming before anyone else.

After building relationships with key players in the Lovecraft revival – including podcasters, authors, actors and performers – Blackthorn Communications launched HP Lovecraft: Reanimated; a live celebration of the author’s work that includes book readings, comedy performances and literary discussion of the writer’s best-loved stories.

The first event was staged in The Horse Hospital in central London in April 2011, and sold out weeks before the show took place. HP Lovecraft: Reanimated also attracted sponsorship from a comicbook publisher that was releasing an anthology based on Lovecraft’s work, and the team at Blackthorn Communications used social networks, word of mouth and shameless plugging to its media contacts to ensure the event was a roaring success.
